The characteristic that sets diamonds apart from all other precious stones (and differentiates them from even the best imitations) is the sparkle. These stones have an unrivalled ability to gather light into their centre – the celebrated internal fire of the very best examples is a result of the particular crystalline properties that only a true diamond can boast.
Looking through the range on this site or elsewhere, you’ll notice that almost all diamond rings have the stone set well above the band in a claw. Even elaborate multi stone arrangements usually have a centrepiece stone in a claw setting. This enables more light to get into the diamond. In order to sparkle at their best, it is necessary to let as much light into the stone as possible. In most cases a claw setting is the best way of allowing that.
With diamond earrings there are other options. Studs are usually designed with a claw setting but there is also the possibility of letting the stone hang free. With diamond pendant earrings the light can enter the stone from all angles. There is nothing blocking it out so the maximum amount can be collected into the gem.
Without doubt, this is the best way of showing off a truly outstanding diamond especially if it is large in size. Setting fine diamonds as pendant earrings guarantees a truly stunning effect – the most lively sparkle and the most spectacular fire possible. They are a wonderful way of displaying the merits of these beautiful gems.

The Greeks had a word for diamonds: “adamas” which means invincible; however although diamonds are the hardest of the precious stones, it is perhaps a bit of an exaggeration to say that they are completely invulnerable. If you want to get the best out of your diamond eternity ring or diamond earrings long into the future, then there are a few things you can do.
Firstly, it is important to note that the cut of a diamond can often be very precise; therefore any cleaning procedure needs to be extremely delicate, in order to ensure that you don’t affect the quality of the diamond. Of course one way around this would be to ask a professional jeweller to do it for you; however, if you want to clean your diamond rings yourself there are definitely some things you can try at home.
You can clean your diamond eternity ring or diamond earrings with a soft cloth on a fairly regular basis. If done properly this should not damage the ring, and will prevent a build up of dirt on the piece, which can undermine its quality.
For a more thorough cleaning method, you might consider soaking the piece in warm water or a mild detergent solution – about one part mild detergent and four parts warm water.
Considering that diamond rings are some of the most durable kinds of jewellery, these simple cleaning methods should keep your item dazzling long into the future!

Loose cut diamonds come in many shapes, but never the classic diamond rhomboid shape as seen in the suit of cards. Shape and cut are often confused, with ‘cut’ used to describe the shape. However, cut also refers to the way rough diamonds are faceted. The diamonds in diamond engagement rings come in a fascinating range, some of which are detailed below.
Asscher is a square, stepped cut developed by Joseph Asscher, who, with his brother Abraham, cut the massive Cullinan diamond in 1902.
Brilliant is a round cut of 58 facets which produce the most light, creating a brilliance and fire second to none.
Cushion is a deep square or rectangle which was very popular in the Nineteenth Century because it made best use of candlelight whose rays were caught and reflected in the diamonds.
Emerald is a classic stepped square or rectangular shape. The highest quality diamonds must be used for this cut because tiny flaws may be visible.
Heart has 59 facets with an indent at the top, making the classic heart shape.
Marquise is a symmetrical elongated oval; it is an old cut dating from the Eighteenth Century, possibly originating in France.
Ovals, or briolettes, are particularly popular for diamond pendant earrings as they are faceted all around.
Pear or the tear drop has 58 facets and is a shape dating back over 500 years.
Princess is a modern square cut but not stepped, rather it is brilliant cut, making it a fiery stone indeed.
These are just a few examples of the many shapes that we at Marlows can offer, showing that there is more to diamonds than meets the eye.

Film stars are renowned for wearing diamonds on Hollywood’s famous red carpet at the Oscars. They choose to wear a selection of multi-stone diamond rings, diamond pendant earrings and, of course, necklaces and bracelets. Most diamonds are not owned by the stars but loaned by famous jewellery houses such as Harry Winston, Fred Leighton, Chopard and Cartier; all willing to loan these precious diamonds for the publicity it generates. This paid off for Chanel in 1997 when the necklace worn by Celine Dion sold within 24 hours of her appearance.
Those stars who wear their own diamonds are few; the most famous being Elizabeth Taylor in 1970, who wore the 69 carat Taylor-Burton diamond that her husband had bought for her. Even fewer stars later buy the diamonds they wore; but Gwyneth Paltrow’s father bought her the necklace she wore when she won the Oscar for Best Actress for her part in “Shakespeare in Love” in 1999.
Although you may never get the opportunity to walk along the Hollywood Red Carpet, you will certainly have your own unique carpet moment at your wedding. Choosing diamonds is a classically elegant move that can never go wrong. Diamond engagement rings and diamond wedding rings are the set pieces of any wedding outfit. These may be easily complemented by jewellery of a similar nature such as diamond earrings. However; Girls don’t be the only ones to have all the fun here, as jewellery and diamonds for men are increasingly popular.
We at Marlows have a wide experience with diamonds and jewellery and guarantee diamonds to match your own Hollywood Moment.

A ‘diamond geezer’ is a slang term for a good, solid, reliable man; the sort of man who knows how to do the right thing. He’s the kind of guy who will buy diamond rings for his lady to celebrate special occasions in their relationship.
He is unselfish and caring, so why not surprise him by returning the favour and lavishing jewellery upon him?
Anniversaries and birthdays are an ideal and obvious time to give him diamond rings. More unusual occasions could be if he gets a new job or gains promotion at work; may be he’s had to work extra long hours recently. His favourite team has just won or they lost so badly that he needs cheering up. Sometimes it’s just fine to celebrate that it’s a Thursday and you love him.
Men are as particular about jewellery as women with tastes ranging from full-on bling to small and discrete; not every guy is happy to sport diamond earrings or diamond rings. However, you know your man, so choosing a piece of jewellery that is just right for him should not be a problem.
If you are stuck for ideas, here is a tip from Marlows. We would recommend considering buying loose cut diamonds. They are not something that only the richest can contemplate, tumbling out of a little velvet bag in a sparkling waterfall. They are a good, solid investment as well as an unusual gift, and, who knows, he may be so overwhelmed that he has them set into diamond rings for you!

The right choice of diamond earrings can enhance your overall appearance, and complete an outfit.
You’ll find so many different styles and shapes of diamond earrings on offer. Take into account personal style and fashion tastes, especially when it comes to diamond pendant earrings.
The first choice to make when it comes to diamond earrings is whether to go for hoops, earring studs with diamonds, or danglers.
Studs are wonderfully uncomplicated, and can be worn regularly. The setting can be gold, silver or platinum, and possible shapes include round, oval and princess cuts. Diamond hoops, another way of expressing class and style, can be circular, semi-circular or oval. They usually carry a line of diamonds on the whole or front view.
The most popular styles for diamond pendant earrings are chandelier and drop earrings. Chandeliers are heavy on glamour, while drop earrings look highly sophisticated, with a single line formation studded with diamonds.
Whether you prefer antique jewellery or the latest designer product, these earrings make a fantastic gift. If the jewels are certified, you’re also making a canny investment. As with any other diamond item, look for colour, cut and clarity.
Rest assured that the sparkle from these gorgeous items will never go unnoticed!
