The Mystery And History Of Eternity Rings

Eternity rings are usually given to a woman by her husband on important anniversaries or occasions. Most commonly this would be the birth of a first child.

There is debate about the historical significance of an eternity ring. Some say that the tradition of wearing an eternity rings stretches as far back as Egyptian times while other say it is merely clever marketing in order to sell more diamonds.

Diamonds are commonly found in diamond eternity rings in two different ways. The full eternity ring describes diamonds all around the band while half-moon design describes a band with diamonds set into only half of it.

Half-moon diamond eternity rings were created because diamonds worn next to the palm and the underside of the fingers can be irritating to the skin and could be easily scuffed or damaged. However, it is possible now to have the diamonds set into the band in such a way that makes any discomfort or possible damage to the ring (or your hand!) less likely.

The symbolism that the ring offers through its circular shape has the same meaning in eternity rings as it does in engagement rings or wedding rings: a love that has no beginning and no end and is timeless. The enduring and steadfast quality that the diamond symbolises is no accident. Diamonds are one of the hardest materials known on earth and therefore the perfect practical and symbolic precious stone for use in rings.

Diamond eternity rings are not as commonly given as other items of jewellery, such as diamond earrings, but they are more romantic. What better gift to give your partner after a long labour and night after night of no sleep?
