Diamonds on the Red Carpet
Film stars are renowned for wearing diamonds on Hollywood’s famous red carpet at the Oscars. They choose to wear a selection of multi-stone diamond rings, diamond pendant earrings and, of course, necklaces and bracelets. Most diamonds are not owned by the stars but loaned by famous jewellery houses such as Harry Winston, Fred Leighton, Chopard and Cartier; all willing to loan these precious diamonds for the publicity it generates. This paid off for Chanel in 1997 when the necklace worn by Celine Dion sold within 24 hours of her appearance.
Those stars who wear their own diamonds are few; the most famous being Elizabeth Taylor in 1970, who wore the 69 carat Taylor-Burton diamond that her husband had bought for her. Even fewer stars later buy the diamonds they wore; but Gwyneth Paltrow’s father bought her the necklace she wore when she won the Oscar for Best Actress for her part in “Shakespeare in Love” in 1999.
Although you may never get the opportunity to walk along the Hollywood Red Carpet, you will certainly have your own unique carpet moment at your wedding.
