Diamonds may famously be ‘forever’, but that’s certainly not how long you want to be paying for them! If you purchase wisely, you won’t be. Don’t listen to pushy salespeople who try and tell you that the size of the diamonds or ring you buy is a statement of how much you love the person you are buying for. Some people feel it’s worth sacrificing the quality of the jewel in terms of cut, colour and clarity, to have a larger diamond, but that’s a choice only you can make.
Hand size is another factor when making your choice – even small jewels will look larger on slender fingers. If you want to find your sweetheart’s ring size when she’s not looking, you could try and borrow one of her rings and getting it sized, or trace the interior diameter. However, a ring can always be re-sized if you can’t do this.
